A significant part of the Revolutionary War, the Overmountain Victory Trail connects Cowpens National Battlefield with Kings Mountain National Military Park and traverses right through Downtown Gaffney.

What is the
Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail?
The Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail traces the route used by Patriot militia during the Kings Mountain campaign of 1780. The entirety of the trail stretches 330 miles through four states (Virginia, Tennessee, North and South Carolina) and includes both a Commemorative Motor Route and 87 miles of walkable pathways. Within Cherokee County, the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail connects Cowpens National Battlefield with Kings Mountain National Military Park, where Patriot forces and Overmountain Militiamen chased down and defeated Patrick Ferguson and his Loyalist forces in a key turning point of the Revolutionary War.
What is a
National Historic Trail?
National Historic Trails are historically significant trails that engage travelers in a route that is the same or similar to the path that was traveled at the historic event. National Historic Trails are designated through a collaborative effort between the community, the property owner, and the National Parks Service. Proposed trails are considered based upon set criteria pertaining to the trail’s historical significance, community and property-owner support, and as well as the experience that the trail will provide to tourists and locals.
