‘Boys’ to Men: Backwater Rise to Overmountain Victory
On Monday, October 6, 2025, the Gaffney Visitors Center will host a Lunch & Learn panel discussion in the Rev War Exhibition Hall (210 W Frederick Street, Gaffney, SC) with reenactors from the Overmountain Victory Trail Association.
This engaging program explores how frontier militiamen, once dismissed by British Major Patrick Ferguson as “Backwater Boys,” transformed insult into determination, rising to play a decisive role in the Patriot victory at Kings Mountain and other locations in Colonial South Carolina.

• Lunch begins at 11:30 AM | Food truck on site with options under $10 (menu available by calling or emailing).
• Panel discussion begins at 12:15 PM.
• Event is free | Lunch is not | Space is limited

Upcoming Event

Lunch & Learn with Sheila Ingle

Join us for lunch and an engaging session with Sheila Ingle as she shares the story of a Revolutionary War heroine who helped families fight for liberty in the Carolinas. The Midnight Ride of Jane Black Thomas through Laurens County will address a sixty mile ride on horseback in the dead of night through dense forests and rivers in 1780. This was definitely no small feat for a lady in Colonial times.

This event will be hosted at the Gaffney Visitors Center & Art Gallery. Lunch is either bring-your-own or $10 for Boston Annie’s.

RSVP by Wednesday, March 13th at (864) 487-6244 or events@getintogaffney.com
