Get Into Gaffney, South Carolina – where the past is honored, the present is engaging and the future is inviting. Located at the northern point of the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway and at Exit 92 on Interstate 85, Gaffney is easily accessible. You will want to make your first stop the Gaffney Visitors Center and Art Gallery located just two miles from Exit 92, where knowledgeable staff will extend personal assistance with an itinerary to fit your schedule and budget.
Rich in history and arts, the Gaffney Visitors Center and Art Gallery is an attraction of its own. Preserving its history, the City of Gaffney acquired a grant to purchase the historic “old post office” in 2009. During its “renovation” project, City officials, staff and contractors quickly changed its plans to be that of a “restoration” project, unveiling numerous architectural and ornate features of the original construction of 1913. Opening in September 2010, the Gaffney Visitors Center and Art Gallery is also home to the Cherokee Alliance of Visual Artists (CAVA), a non-profit organization compiled of Cherokee County artists. The gallery located in this facility features rotating exhibits of works by local artists and often displays the works of visiting artists. A jewel to your visit would be to arrive while artists are working in the studio so you can observe “art in the making.” Free admission to the art gallery makes the Center a must see as visitors and citizens Get Into Gaffney Arts.

Upon departure of the historic commercial district, stroll through the streets of Gaffney’s Residential Historic District, with homes constructed between 1890 and 1930, generally of frame or brick construction with fine examples of Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, Neo-Classical, Victorian, and Bungalow styles. Located on College Drive, nestled in the historic residential district, you’ll want to enrich your historic exploration with a visit to the Cherokee History Museum. The Residential Historic District will lead you to the beautiful Limestone Springs Historic District encompassing much of the Limestone College campus, Nesbitt’s Quarry (locally referred to as the Limestone Quarry), and the Limestone Springs Baptist Church.
