Event Details

“Town and Country,” a 20th Century magazine still in publication today and the title of CAVA’s newest exhibit at the Gaffney Visitors Center and Art Gallery located at 210 W. Frederick Street. The exhibit is the creative endeavor of the Cherokee Alliance of Visual Artists (CAVA). The exhibit opens May 9 and continues through June 28. A reception is planned for Thursday, May 12, from 5:00-7:00 pm. What does town and country suggest? The ”Town and Country” magazine is very sophisticated. Its content is hardly related to CAVA’s show. In CAVA’s show expect to see nostalgia for a past time. Country roads, verdant forests, rustling streams, old barns, chickens, clotheslines filled with laundry blowing in the breeze, small towns and smaller cafes. There is just a smattering of works that deal with the city and town.

This exhibit is dedicated to the memory of Ron Cope who was a member of CAVA for several years. At CAVA Dr. Cope was known as a photographer; he was better known in Gaffney as the principal of Luther Vaughn Elementary School. CAVA will have several of his photographs on view with some relating to CAVA’s city/country theme.
